About Me

I am Dhatri Reddy. I am AIR 233 of UPSC CSE 2018 and got allotted to the IPS. I am a graduate of IIT Kharagpur. I worked with Deutsche Bank in their Corporate Finance and Investment Banking Division before deciding to quit and prepare for the Civil Services Examination. I managed to clear the exam in my second attempt and first mains. You can find my marksheet here.

I hail from Hyderabad and prepared for the exam from the comfort of my home (except for the brief period where I took coaching in Delhi). I followed the blogs of several previous toppers during my preparation and found them useful as I took notes, guidance and even motivation from those blogs during my times of solitude. I decided to put together this blog after some aspirants reached out to me regarding my notes and approach. I also hope to share my experiences during training and later work through this medium.

To make a candid confession, I expected a better rank (much better, if you will) than what I have. However, I have been blessed with the service that I always wanted. May be things do fall in place if you give your best. So shed all your apprehensions and give it all you got.
All the very best to whoever is reading this! :)

UPDATE: I got AIR 46 in UPSC 2019. (Marksheet)

  1. Hey Dhatri, Firstly Congratulations on becoming an IPS! My best wishes for your future as an officer! Also thanks a lot for sharing about your journey! I am for the past few months facing a dilemma as to whether go for UPSC or not! Whether that will be the right decision or not! It's here that I want to seek your perspective as to why did you leave DB for IAS/IPS when DB is one of the most sought after job/company out of campus and Investment banking amongst the most financially lucrative careers. What is it that drew you towards civil services instead of a financially rewarding career?

    1. Hey there! I could write pages in reply to this, as I made this decision over a period of time with all kinds of twists and turns :) To put it shortly, and at the risk of sounding idealistic, I yearned to work in a service-oriented job ever since I had joined DB. Though college and the competitive environment there made me seek out a job like DB, financial reward isn't exactly high on my priority.
My advice to you would be that if you have the right reasons to wish to join the government, go for it. Because as a Kgpian I can assure you that you can always go back to these "financially rewarding" options later, if you have to. ATB :)

  2. Hi Ma'am, Congratulations for your selection in IPS.
I had met you in the session by Telugu Civil Servants Association where you with the other selected candidates spoke about Sociology as an optional. Though, it was very insightful, I couldn't note down all the points there and hence searched online for your startegy. Could you kindly give your topic wise book list and the strategy for Sociology optional? Thank you for the blogs on GS and other sections. Wish you all the best for your career.
